MTB FIVE Barn House
A complete home in 40 m². Not a cabin and not a studio: a proper bedroom with a wardrobe, a full bathroom with a shower, and an open living-kitchen-dining space under a 3.95 m ridge. A ladder leads to a mezzanine lit by two large glazed gables — a second sleeping level, a study or storage. Nothing here feels improvised; the plan was drawn so that every square metre carries a purpose and the house lives far larger than its footprint.
The proportions do most of the work. A steep 35° roof, a clean anthracite metal skin on both roof and facade, and a full-height glazed balcony unit (2.4 × 2.5 m) that opens the living room onto the terrace — the way a house is actually used in Cyprus for most of the year. A second balcony window gives the bedroom its own access to the garden. Inside and out, the building reads as one coherent object rather than a collection of parts.
It works equally well as a compact permanent home, a guest house in the garden of an existing villa, or a self-contained rental or glamping unit.
